INVESTOR INTERVIEW

Today, I am very excited to bring you the first edition of our Yellowbrick Investor Interviews!

For my first guest, it’s only fitting that I bring on the guy who runs the second-best account on Twitter/X for surfacing new stock ideas (behind my Twitter account of course 🙂) - @evfcfaddict.

Not only does he share awesome stock ideas, he also regularly hosts Twitter Spaces with his favorite stock pickers where they share their favorite investment ideas.

In celebration of hitting 10k followers, he is hosting a HUGE Twitter Spaces event on April 8th (link) with literally all of the best investors on Twitter who will pitch their favorite stocks. This is a can’t-miss event.

Make sure to follow @evfcfaddict on Twitter and set a reminder for the April 8th Twitter Spaces (link).

On to my chat with @evfcfaddict.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

I work in a small regional bank in Austria as head of the private banking unit. For a long time, I preferred funds over stock picking, but a few years ago, some friends (who work in the fund industry) made me curious about single stocks. So, I started to search for interesting sources to create ideas and found Twitter.

I slowly but steadily found interesting (initially German-speaking) accounts and started to build a network with my favorite accounts. One of them did (and still does) weekly spaces, and from the beginning, I liked the idea. So, I started to do them with my favorite stock pickers. It worked out well, and as I found more and more US accounts I liked, I decided to switch to English and also started to do spaces in English.

What kind of investor are you / what types of companies/situations are you looking for?

Valuation is the most important metric for me. I try to find the best possible companies/management teams for the lowest possible multiples (most of my holdings have a single-digit ev/ebit multiple). I avoid businesses that are cyclical and/or hard to assess like commodities, banks or biotechs. I prefer companies with a very clean balance sheet and good capital allocation.

Note from Connor: here are a few tweets he has made with some of the numbers he looks at when researching a stock (click on the pictures to go to the tweets)

What does your investment research process look like?

I always read my entire Twitter timeline, scanning for new ideas. That's why I only follow accounts (fewer than 300) where I appreciate their idea creation. Additionally, I read dozens of fund letters monthly/quarterly, and I have some Substack subscriptions as well (mainly from people I follow on Twitter).

When I find something interesting, I mainly use Koyfin (discount link) for the valuation details and for reading transcripts of the latest quarterly management call. In addition, I try to find information on Twitter, Microcap Club, and some public discussion boards, as well as on the IR site of the company.

What do you think it takes to be successful at the style of investing you do?

It’s very important to find people you can trust. Even on Twitter, there are people who just want to push certain stocks to line their own pockets. That’s the reason I do spaces: to bring people you can trust into the spotlight.

Another very important point for every investor is: don’t get greedy. It’s very important to never overweight certain stocks too much. There are always enough ideas out there to get an allocation that makes you sleep well at night.

Most of all, it’s important to find your own personal way to allocate money and to find ideas you are comfortable with.

What is one of your recent successful investments?

One of my most successful investments as of late was Kri-Kri Milk (link to writeup on Twitter).

Note from Connor: the stock has gone straight up and to the right since he shared this stock pitch in September (it’s up 43%).

Summary of the pitch from the Yellowbrick website

What are a couple of ideas on your radar right now?

Two of my current best ideas include Duratec ($DUR.AX) and Sanlorenzo ($SL.MI) (link to Twitter thread). I share my portfolio every last trading day of the month after the market closes. You can search my profile for every ticker mentioned and will find all I shared about it.

Note from Connor: below is the summary (link) of the deep dive into $DUR.AX that he mentioned in the Twitter thread.

What do you hope the future looks like for yourself and your career?

I’m very happy with my job and family. I hope to meet as many fintwit friends as possible in person in the next years and try to continue to share my investment journey on Twitter.

Who are some other investors, Twitter accounts, blogs, funds, etc that you follow (and why)?

@dsmoak98 (Managing Partner at Smoak Capital) on Twitter – a fantastic, humble guy who I love to talk with as he perfectly fits my investment style

The guys at Microcap Club (link) are awesome, it’s a big family with lots of high-quality ideas and discussion

@sebkrog on Twitter – young guy, extremely talented, love to chat with him about ideas, must follow if you like microcaps

To be honest, there are so many others – most of them are attending my 10,000 followers spaces on April 8 and will pitch their current favorite idea there (link)!

Where can people find you/reach out?
